ARLINGTON, Va. – Washington Capitals general manager George McPhee says he “didn’t like the refereeing” in his team’s first-round playoff series loss to the New York Rangers.
McPhee said Wednesday the way calls went “sure didn’t feel right.”
The Rangers — the NHL’s least-penalized team during the regular season — got 28 power plays in the series, the Capitals 16.
The Capitals lost Game 7 at home 5-0 on Monday night after leading the series 2-0 and 3-2. It’s the sixth consecutive year Washington made the playoffs — and the sixth consecutive time it was eliminated in the first or second round.
McPhee indicated he doesn’t expect major changes this offseason, saying: “The team is in real good shape; there’s not a lot to do, going forward.”
